Middleman Sports does not believe in Free Picks to
be given out every day by professional handicappers. We have learned
throughout the years as professional handicappers that these Free Picks,
which are given out to customers every day, are there to entice customers
to sign up for packages. It is sort of a scam, because it is a no lose
situation for the sports service, win, lose or push. Let's outline below:
If the free picks WIN, then the handicapper can take
the sales approach to the customer, "Hey we are winning with our free
picks. Now sign up for a package with the money you won, and you can have
many MORE selections like these and make a lot MORE money." In reality, if
these picks were so solid, why weren't the subscribers receiving them in
the first place, as those are the paying customers that should be getting
your top notch work.
If the free picks LOSE, then the handicapper takes
the sales approach that, "Hey those are only the free picks, you are down
now, however, I have my subscriber selections which are my better plays,
send me money now so you can win and get your money back with my
subscriber selections." In reality, you will probably fall for this sales
pitch as you don't want to pay the man with the money you set aside for
your significant other's birthday next week, and you will be desperate to
get out of the hole.
If the free picks PUSH, well it's pretty tough to get anyone's
selections to push for an extended period of time. However, it does beg
the question that if these are "free" picks, how much time and energy has
the professional handicapper put into them. If he really likes the
selection and has worked hard at trying to pick the winner, why isn't it
given out to the subscribers who have paid him their hard earned money? If
he has not worked hard on the selection, and is not counting the selection
towards his season with a monitor, why would you play a selection that is
just being used as a sales tool to obtain visitors? Obviously, this does
not have your best interests in mind.
This same theory is true if the professional
handicapping service is giving out 1 or 2 free picks that the actual
subscribers get. If the free picks win, it alienates the subscriber who is
paying the money, while everyone else who is not paying are getting the
same winning picks. If the free picks lose, then the capper has the sales
pitch, "Yeah, but my other plays won, etc."
We can all but guarantee that of the retread
articles that have been written over the years on handicapping, you have
not had the sales service side exposed to you in this light by a
professional handicapping company. Our goal is to educate the consumer to
all aspects of handicapping and handicapping services, by shedding some
light on issues that others will dare venture.
